Genesis chapter 10
Obedience vs Rebellion
Welcome back!
Like Genesis chapter 5, what we have here is basically a genealogy. The descendants of Noah, after the flood. That however is not ALL that we have to consume in this chapter. There is more meat on the bone.
The world and every living person had just witnessed firsthand the awesome power of God. There is no indication that anyone that stepped off of the Ark doubted the existence of God.
As it might be expected, to find this chapter’s premise, we have to look back to the previous chapter, chapter 9.
Genesis 9:6
“Whoever sheds man’s blood, his blood will be shed by man, for God made man in His image.”
This verse has three very valuable teachings. First, it teaches us that God is a God of justice. Second it teaches us that man has no value in and of himself. Man’s value is directly traced back to God. Apart from God, man has no value. Harsh words, but true. God’s truth is often hard to hear and even harder to accept, until of course you submit yourself to God and His Word. Third, this verse teaches us that man was created to be compatible with God.
Genesis 9:7
“But you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out over the earth and multiply on it.”
God’s command to those that stepped off of the Ark. To multiply and to spread out. This is our key to understanding Genesis chapter 10.
